The rules from PATD's "The Ballad Mona Lisa" music video on treating death.

Rule #1 Open a window:
It was believed that when someone died, the windows needed to be opened so the soul would find a way out and not linger in the home.

Rule #2 Close the window two hours later:
The windows must be closed after some time after judging that the soul has left so the soul didn't come back in the house.

Rule #3 Stop all clocks and cover all mirrors
The clocks were stopped in remembrance of the death. It was bad luck if the clocks were not stopped. People believed reflections to be the projection of your soul, and that the spirit would walk through the mirrors looking to drag souls off with them. Thus, the mirrors were covered so the spirit didn't have access to the livings' souls.

The rest are common burial rituals. Just thought I'd slip some history in with the song.
